Is Obama Lucky?

Geraldine A. Ferraro, the former congresswoman and vice-presidential candidate who served in an advisory role to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, told The Daily Breeze, a newspaper in Torrance, Calif.: “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman of any color, he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”(source)

I actually respect her for stating what is on the mind of many citizens. I have a higher regard based on her owning up to her statements and not insulting our intelligence with the standard practice of providing "an official apology" to the offended group!

I am saddened that she negates the vast intellect, ability and timely platform of Senator Barack Obama as “luck” due to his race. As an African- American, I hastily accept that compliment if those admirable attributes are inherit to my race! If Senator Obama was a white male, he would probably have the campaign won by now.

Is her statement reminiscent of Jimmy the Greek? Or this evident of the stifled racism that exists in most Americans?
